The Government of Turkey attaches utmost importance to the Joint Inspection Unit as the only independent external oversight body of the United Nations that is mandated to conduct system-wide inspections, evaluations and investigations with a view to enhancing the efficiency of the administrative and financial functioning of the United Nations system organizations.

In its resolution 60/258, the General Assembly has reaffirmed the role of the unit as the only independent external oversight body of the United Nations system mandated to conduct evaluations, inspections and investigations system-wide.
