43. At the request of the INSTRAW Executive Board, the Department of Management of the United Nations Secretariat organized a workshop at the Institute headquarters, from 17 to 25 November 2008, to follow up on the previous workshop held in January 2008.

The Department of Management of the Secretariat has informed the Board that, in the interest of harmonization across the United Nations common system, better governance disclosures would be considered by the High Level Committee on Management of CEB and that, on the basis of paragraph 9 of General Assembly resolution 59/264, a report will be prepared by the Secretary-General for consideration by the Assembly at its sixty-first session.

In order to support the rapid reinforcement and expansion of UNIFIL, the commitment authority request includes requirements for general temporary assistance positions for the Strategic Military Cell, the Department of Peacekeeping Operations and the Department of Management of the Secretariat at Headquarters and for operational, administrative and logistic support in the field as well as their related non-staff requirements.

Also recalls paragraph 23 of the report of the Advisory Committee on Administrative and Budgetary Questions, and requests the Secretary-General to further clarify the role of the Department of Management of the Secretariat in the evaluation process, in order to ensure the appropriate independence of the Management Evaluation Unit, and to report thereon to the General Assembly at its sixty-fifth session;
