Many developing countries in all regions had embarked on regional integration of both developed and developing countries, such as the Trans-Pacific Partnership Agreement, Tripartite Initiative in Africa and EPAs between African, Caribbean and Pacific (ACP) States and the European Union.

In fact, over the last decade, international trade rules have created significant friction between China and many other countries, including the US. Now, free-trade agreements are being negotiated – namely, the Trans-Pacific Partnership and the Trans-Atlantic Trade and Investment Partnership – that will undermine the continued expansion of Chinese exports to the extent that they raise entry barriers for Chinese firms.

Add to that furtive protectionism, in the form of state assistance and government procurement, and Chinese exports are facing serious challenges.
