At its forty-fifth session, in 2012, the Commission considered the desirability of work in the area of international contract law on the basis of a proposal by Switzerland (A/CN.9/758).

Mr. Kanu (Sierra Leone) said that the completion by UNCITRAL of the draft convention on the use of electronic communications in international contracts was a significant contribution to the development of international contract law and an important tool for the establishment of a sound environment for electronic contracting and economic development.
