Reference was made to the HR Committee's concern that the number of reported rapes in Iceland was high in comparison to the number of cases prosecuted, with JS1 expressing great concern that the situation had not changed and that the conviction rate in cases of sexual violence or abuse against children was also very low and relatively few cases were brought to court each year.

1. States Parties shall take all appropriate legislative, administrative, social, educational and other measures to protect persons with disabilities, both within and outside the home, from all forms of exploitation, violence and abuse, including their gender-based aspects.
