195. Ms. Mboi also informed the Committee that she attended a Regional Consultation on Violence and the Role of the Health Sector, held in Yangon, from 12 to 15 January 1999, and presented a paper on “Reflection on violence against girls and Women: a Call for Action by the Health Care Sector”.
195- وأبلغت السيدة مبوي أيضاً اللجنة بأنها حضرت اجتماع تشاور إقليمي في موضوع العنف ودور قطاع الصحة عقد في يانغون في الفترة من 12 إلى 15 كانون الثاني/يناير 1999، وأنها قدمت فيه ورقة عن " تفكّر في العنف ضد البنات والنساء: دعوة إلى قيام قطاع الرعاية الصحية بالعمل " .

In addition, article 5 of the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women urges State parties to take measures to eliminate " prejudices and customary and all other practices which are based on the idea of the inferiority or the superiority of either of the sexes or on stereotyped roles for men and women " , acknowledging the role of customs and traditions in perpetuating violence against girls.
