In Colombia, one lesson learned is that supporting the creation and strengthening of farmers' organizations is the best strategy for successful development at the regional and local levels, since it results in the generation of strong social capital and ultimately becomes an effective mechanism for communication between the Government, local authorities and the farming communities.
