In the Sahel, UNODC continued providing technical assistance to the focal points of the Sahel regional judicial platform and enhanced their effectiveness in facilitating extradition and mutual legal assistance in criminal matters.

83. At the regional level, Sahel countries established the regional judicial platform for the Sahel countries, which institutionalizes judicial cooperation in the region.

UNODC also organized the second meeting of the regional judicial platform for the Sahel countries in Niamey in May 2011, as well as the third meeting of focal points of the regional justice platform of the States members of the Indian Ocean Commission, held in Quatre Bornes, Mauritius, in June 2011.

A meeting was held in The Hague in January 2012 to discuss cooperation between the regional judicial platform for the Sahel countries, the Indian regional justice platform of the States members of the Indian Ocean Commission and the European Judicial Network.

In 2011, the Office issued and developed, through the regional judicial platform for the Sahel countries, a practical guide containing legal and practical information on effectively submitting a request for extradition or mutual legal assistance.
24- وفي عام 2011، قام المكتب، من خلال المنتدى القضائي الإقليمي لمنطقة الساحل، بإصدار وتطوير دليل عملي يتضمَّن معلومات قانونية وعملية عن كيفية تقديم طلبات تسليم المجرمين أو طلبات المساعدة القانونية المتبادلة بطريقة فعّالة.

UNMIBH and OSCE are also key members of the regional judicial Reform Working Group (chaired by the Independent Judicial Commission) which addresses the issue of disciplinary action to be taken against unsuitable judges.

UNODC also continues to support existing judicial platforms and networks such as the regional judicial platform for the Sahel countries that aims at connecting focal points for extradition and mutual legal assistance, especially pertaining to terrorism investigations, in Burkina Faso, Mali, Mauritania and Niger.
16- ويواصل المكتب أيضا دعم المنتديات والشبكات القضائية القائمة مثل المنتدى القضائي الإقليمي لبلدان منطقة الساحل الذي يهدف إلى الربط بين جهات الاتصال المعنية بتسليم المطلوبين للعدالة والمساعدة القانونية المتبادلة، وبخاصة فيما يتعلق بالتحقيقات المتعلقة بالإرهاب، في بوركينا فاسو ومالي وموريتانيا والنيجر.

(a) Strengthen existing subregional judicial cooperation mechanisms, notably the regional judicial Platform of Sahel countries and the Network of Central Authorities and Prosecutors in West Africa, especially with regard to the drafting and processing of mutual legal assistance and extradition requests, in line with international human rights law and rule of law standards (UNODC, Counter-Terrorism Committee Executive Directorate);

The Office also provided technical support to the annual meeting of the regional justice platform of the Indian Ocean Commission, a network of focal points for international cooperation in criminal matters among member States of the Commission, held in Antananarivo from 23 to 25 January.
53- كما قدَّم المكتب الدعم التقني إلى الاجتماع السنوي للمنتدى القضائي الإقليمي لبلدان لجنة المحيط الهندي، وهو شبكة من جهات الاتصال من أجل التعاون الدولي في المسائل الجنائية بين الدول الأعضاء في اللجنة، الذي عُقد في أنتاناناريفو، من 23 إلى 25 كانون الثاني/يناير.
