Under a UNEP/United Nations Development Programme joint project on Environmental Law and Institutions in Africa, Sao Tome and Principe is being assisted in carrying out a study on urban waste management.
وفي إطار مشروع مشترك بين برنامج اﻷمم المتحدة للبيئة وبرنامج اﻷمم المتحدة اﻹنمائي بشأن القوانين والمؤسسات البيئية في أفريقيا، تقدم المساعدة حاليا الى سان تومي وبرينسيبي في إجراء دراسة بشأن إدارة النفايات في المناطق الحضرية.

It also requested the Executive Director of UNEP and the Secretary-General of AALCO to provide advisory services, technical assistance and capacity-building, in the form of training of legal stakeholders from member States, in strengthening Environmental Laws and Institutions for sustainable environmental management in accordance with the Bali Strategic Plan for technology support and capacity-building.

Various actions, in collaboration with SPREP, aimed at the enhancement of national capacities of South Pacific small island developing States in the field of Environmental Law and Institutions.

Another example is the model system of coordination of UNEP and UNDP activities that has been developed under the CAPACITY 21 Environmental Law and Institutions in Africa Programme, which is jointly managed by UNDP and UNEP.

368. UNEP. Capacity-building programme in environmental law to strengthen the legal and institutional framework for environmental management, for the benefit of national authorities, including through the Partnership for the Development of Environmental Law and Institutions in Africa.

4. Invites Governments to support the Partnership for the Development of Environmental Law and Institutions in Africa project and requests the United Nations Environment Programme, subject to the availability of extra budgetary resources, to expand the Partnership to enable it to provide support to all African States and for programming purposes to integrate it into the regular programme of the United Nations Environment Programme;
4 - يدعو الحكومات إلى دعم مشروع الشراكة من أجل تطوير القوانين والمؤسسات البيئية في أفريقيا، ويطلب إلى برنامج الأمم المتحدة للبيئة، رهناً بتوافر الموارد من خارج الميزانية، توسيع نطاق هذه الشراكة لتمكينها من توفير الدعم لجميع الدول الأفريقية وإدماجها لأغراض البرمجة، في البرنامج العادي لبرنامج الأمم المتحدة للبيئة؛

In this context the Partnership for the Development of Environmental Laws and Institutions in Africa (PADELIA) project, which started in 1994, provides an example of how legal and institutional national frameworks for the management of the environment and natural resources may be improved. The project has funding in excess of $3 million and 13 African countries benefit directly from its activities;
