There were 1 million refugees and displaced persons in Azerbaijan as a result of the aggression by the Republic of Armenia and its occupation of a fifth of Azerbaijan's territory.

His delegation therefore once again appealed to international humanitarian organizations and donor countries not to reduce their assistance to the refugees and displaced persons in Azerbaijan.

Furthermore, the " Timetable " does not provide for any measures to solve the problem of refugees and displaced persons in Azerbaijan, of which, as a result of military actions and the occupation of a significant portion of the territory of the country, there are now over one million.

The General Assembly also took up the emergency humanitarian situation, which was a result of the Armenian aggression, and adopted resolution 48/114 of 20 December 1993, entitled " Emergency international assistance to refugees and displaced persons in Azerbaijan " .
كذلك تصدت الجمعية العامة للحالة الإنسانية الطارئة التي حدثت نتيجة للعدوان الأرميني، واتخذت القرار 48/114 المؤرخ 20 كانون الأول/ديسمبر 1993، المعنون " تقديم المساعدة الإنسانية الطارئة إلى اللاجئين والمشردين في أذربيجان " .

78. Mr. Malik-Aslanov (Azerbaijan), replying to the statement by the representative of Armenia, said that, first, in his Government's view the problem of refugees and displaced persons in Azerbaijan could only be settled through the liberation of the Azerbaijani territory occupied by Armenian forces.
