17. The objectives of the subprogramme are to provide ECE member countries, in particular countries in transition, with information and other services in the context of policy- and decision-making for sustainable development.
١٧ - ٦٩ تتمثل أهداف البرنامج الفرعي في تزويد البلدان اﻷعضاء في اللجنة الاقتصادية ﻷوروبا، وبخاصة البلدان المارة بالمرحلة الانتقالية بالمعلومات والخدمات اﻷخرى في سياق رسم السياسات وصنع القرار في سياق التنمية المستدامة.

Within this context, the secretariat will aim to play a more effective role as a major intergovernmental instrument in enhancing energy conservation and demand-side policies in the economies in transition by demonstrating efficient technologies and management practices by means of pilot projects, demonstration zones and labelling of consumer goods.

The objectives of the subprogramme will be (a) assistance to economies in transition in reformulating their policies in the field of human settlements; and (b) promotion of sustainable human settlement development, including formulation of appropriate environmentally sound policies in this field.
١٧ - ٧٤ ستتمثل أهداف البرنامج الفرعي في )أ( تقديم المساعدة الى الاقتصادات المارة بالمرحلة الانتقالية في إعادة رسم سياساتها في ميدان المستوطنات البشرية؛ و )ب( تعزيز التنمية المستدامة للمستوطنات البشرية، بما في ذلك رسم سياسات سليمة من الناحية البيئية على النحو المناسب في هذا الميدان.

In the area of trade analysis special attention will be devoted (a) to assisting the European countries in transition to a market economy in elaborating measures aimed at creating favourable conditions for intraregional trade expansion and structural diversification; and (b) to contributing to the understanding of recent and prospective trade and related investment trends, policies and problems.

The estimated requirements under this heading ($12,500) reflecting a decrease of $24,300 redeployed to subprogramme 2, Transport, would cover the cost of the printing of the guide on financing privatization, the guide on the legal framework for financing in the economies in transition, a study on the impact of trade facilitation for trade in the region and a study on expanding trade among countries in transition. 8. INDUSTRY AND TECHNOLOGY

The primary objectives of the subprogramme are (a) work towards the elaboration and implementation of sustainable energy policies in the ECE region; and (b) assistance to economies in transition in introducing market-oriented energy policies and overcoming short-term problems of supply, integration and interconnection, efficiency, safety and environmental protection.
