Key among these recommendations is the decision to consider further measures for implementing and monitoring initiatives on Africa, including the ministerial declaration of the high-level segment of the Economic and Social Council of 2001 on the basis of the New Partnership for Africa's Development.

By resolution 56/37 of 4 December 2001, the Assembly endorsed some of the recommendations of the Working Group and decided to suspend the activities of the Working Group during the fifty-sixth session of the Assembly in order to consider further measures for the implementation and monitoring of initiatives on Africa.
وبموجب القرار 56/37 المؤرخ 4 كانون الأول/ديسمبر 2001، أيدت الجمعية بعض التوصيات المقدمة من الفريق العامل وقررت تعليق أنشطته خلال الدورة السادسة والخمسين للجمعية من أجل النظر في المزيد من التدابير اللازمة لتنفيذ ورصد المبادرات المتعلقة بأفريقيا.

9. In the statement he made at the opening of the high-level segment of the Economic and Social Council on 16 July 2001, the Secretary-General said the United Nations would fully support the New African Initiative and expressed the need to put an end to the multiplicity of initiatives on Africa.

The United Nations will continue to support the efforts of African countries as outlined in the report of the Secretary-General entitled " Development of Africa: implementation of the recommendations in the report of the Secretary-General to the Security Council and the General Assembly, specially the implementation and coordinated follow-up by the United Nations system of initiatives on Africa " (A/54/133-E/1999/79).
