In another presentation, participants were informed about the United Nations Platform for Space-based Information for disaster management and Emergency Response (UN-SPIDER), a programme within the United Nations aimed at providing universal access to all types of space-based information and services relevant to disaster management.

6.24 The UN-SPIDER programme was established pursuant to General Assembly resolution 61/110 to provide universal access to all types of space-based information and services relevant to disaster management to support the full disaster management cycle, serving as a bridge to connect the disaster management and space communities and being a facilitator of capacity-building and institutional strengthening, in particular for developing countries.
6-24 وأنشئ برنامج سبايدر عملاًُ بقرار الجمعية العامة 61/110 لتوفير حصول الجميع على كافة أنواع المعلومات والخدمات الفضائية المتصلة بإدارة الكوارث ولدعم دورة إدارة الكوارث بأكملها، يكون جسراً يربط بين أوساط إدارة الكوارث والأوساط الفضائية، وميسراً لبناء القدرات وتعزيز المؤسسات، لا سيما لصالح البلدان النامية.

(ii) Improve access to technology and relevant training to assist with hazard and risk assessment and early warning systems, and to assist with the protection of islands from environmental disasters consistent with national and regional strategies for disaster management.

(a) Initial research on existing national and international geo-portals for the sharing of data and information related to disaster management in order to identify the different types of user requirements associated with different hazards types, different phases of the disaster management activity (e.g., risk assessment; preparedness planning; and rescue and recovery), and how this reflects on data requirements;
