This year, in its resolution 1999/39 on the mandate of the Special Rapporteur, the Commission encouraged States to promote and encourage — in particular through education — understanding, tolerance and respect in areas relating to freedom of religion or belief.

7. Urges all States, therefore, to take all appropriate measures to combat hatred, intolerance and acts of violence, including those motivated by religious extremism, and to encourage understanding, tolerance and respect in matters relating to freedom of religion or belief;
٧ ـ تحث جميع الدول، بالتالي، على أن تتخذ جميع التدابير المناسبة لمكافحة الكراهية والتعصب وأعمال العنف، بما فيها اﻷعمال النابعة من التطرف الديني، ولتشجيع التفاهم والتسامح والاحترام في المسائل المتصلة بحرية الدين أو المعتقد؛

12. Considers it desirable to enhance the promotional and public information activities of the United Nations in matters relating to freedom of religion or belief and to ensure that appropriate measures are taken to this end in the World Public Information Campaign for Human Rights;
١٢ - ترى أن من المستصوب تعزيز أنشطة اﻷمم المتحدة الترويجية واﻹعلامية في المسائل المتصلة بحرية الدين أو المعتقد، وضمان اتخاذ تدابير مناسبة لتحقيق هذا الغرض في الحملة اﻹعلامية العالمية لحقوق اﻹنسان؛

In resolution 1998/18, adopted at its fifty—fourth session, the Commission on Human Rights urged States “to promote and encourage through the educational system, and by other means, understanding, tolerance and respect in matters relating to freedom of religion or belief” (para. 4 (g)).
وفي الدورة الرابعة والخمسين للجنة حقوق الإنسان حثّت اللجنة في قرارها 1998/18 الدول على " أن تعزز وتشجع عن طريق نظام التعليم وبوسائل أخرى، التفاهم والتسامح والاحترام في المسائل المتصلة بحرية الدين أو المعتقد " (الفقرة 4(ز) من المنطوق).

٣١- ترى من المستحسن تعزيز أنشطة اﻷمم المتحدة الترويجية واﻹعلامية في المسائل المتصلة بحرية الدين أو المعتقد، وضمان قيام مراكز اﻷمم المتحدة اﻹعلامية، والهيئات المهتمة اﻷخرى، بنشر نص اﻹعلان على أوسع نطاق ممكن، بوصف ذلك مسألة ذات أولوية؛

5. Urges States, in conformity with international standards of human rights, to take all necessary action to prevent such instances, to take all appropriate measures to combat hatred, intolerance and acts of violence, intimidation and coercion motivated by religious extremism and to encourage understanding, tolerance and respect in matters relating to freedom of religion or belief;
٥ - تحث الدول على أن تتخذ، طبقا للمعايير الدولية لحقوق اﻹنسان، جميع التدابير الضرورية لمنع وقوع هذه الحالات، وأن تتخذ جميع التدابير المناسبة لمكافحة الكراهية، والتعصب وأعمال العنف والتخويف واﻹكراه بدافع من التطرف الديني، وأن تشجع التفاهم والتسامح والاحترام في المسائل المتصلة بحرية الدين أو المعتقد؛

12. Considers it desirable to enhance the promotional and public information activities of the United Nations in matters relating to freedom of religion or belief and to ensure that appropriate measures are taken to this end, including the dissemination, as a matter of high priority, of the text of the Declaration by United Nations information centres, as well as by other interested bodies;
٢١ - ترى أن من المستصوب تعزيز أنشطة اﻷمم المتحدة الترويجية واﻹعلامية في المسائل المتصلة بحرية الدين أو المعتقد، وضمان اتخاذ التدابير المناسبة لتحقيق هذا الغرض، بما في ذلك، قيام مراكز اﻷمم المتحدة لﻹعلام والهيئات المهتمة اﻷخرى بنشر نص اﻹعلان على سبيل اﻷولوية العليا؛

72. It would be a legitimate aim were a State to ask for the religious affiliation of its citizens, for example, within the framework of conducting a national census that will allow the State to analyse issues related to freedom of religion or belief.
