II. BACKGROUND TO the lump-sum OPTION

44. It is anticipated that, with the introduction of IMIS, the existing mechanism to process and monitor travel under the lump-sum option will be further streamlined.

3. In its report 2/ on standards of accommodation for air travel, the Advisory Committee on Administrative and Budgetary Questions (ACABQ) noted that the lump-sum option for home leave, family visit and education grant travel had been extended up to 31 December 1995.
٣ - وأشارت اللجنة الاستشارية لشؤون اﻹدارة والميزانية في تقريرها)٢( عن معايير تحديد درجات السفر بالطائرة الى أنه قد جرى تمديد فترة العمل بالخيار المتعلق بالمبلغ اﻹجمالي للسفر في حالات إجازة زيارة الوطن وزيارة اﻷسرة ومنحة التعليم حتى ٣١ كانون اﻷول/ديسمبر ١٩٩٥.

8. In response to inquiry, the Advisory Committee was informed that, in accordance with circular ST/IC/1900/13/Amend.4 of 5 January 1995, the lump-sum option for home leave, family visit and education grant travel was extended to all such travel commencing prior to 31 December 1995.

Although the use of the lump-sum option depends on the availability of competitive airfares in each duty station and needs of staff members for shipment of unaccompanied baggage to and from their duty station, a 78 per cent overall utilization of the lump-sum option points to a large degree of consensus among staff that the current lump-sum rate is attractive.
