I speak today as the representative of a country that has experienced famine and hunger and whose population was decimated by the Great Famine in Ireland in 1847.
إنني أتكلم اليوم بصفتي ممثلا لبلد شهد مجاعة وجوعا وقضى شعبه بسبب المجاعة الكبرى التي وقعت في أيرلندا في عام 1847.

We also express our appreciation to all organizations and individuals who took part in the events honouring the victims of the Great Famine.
ونود أن نعبر عن تقديرنا لجميع المنظمات التي شاركت والأشخاص الذين شاركوا في الأحداث التي تحيي ذكرى ضحايا المجاعة الكبرى.

The Great Famine that engulfed Ukraine in 1932-1933 was the result of Joseph Stalin's policy of forced collectivization.
وكانت المجاعة الكبرى التي اجتاحت أوكرانيا في 1932-1933 نتيجة لسياسة جوزيف ستالين المتمثلة في نظام العمل الجماعي القسري.

Being aware that the Holodomor of 1932-1933 in Ukraine took millions of innocent lives,

We are suggesting what the world should do today to honour the memory of those who died and those who managed to survive the Holodomor's hell.

I call upon all who care about compassion and justice, who strive for the victory of good over evil, to light a candle in memory and together with us remember the victims of the Holodomor.
إنني أهيب بجميع المعنيين بالرحمة والعدالة، والذين يسعون لانتصار الخير على الشر، أن يوقدوا شمعة في هذه الذكرى، ويتذكروا معنا ضحايا المجاعة الكبرى.

Representatives of States from different parts of the world expressed sympathy to the victims of Holodomor and deplored the acts and policies that brought about mass starvation and the deaths of millions of people.
وأعرب ممثلو الدول من مختلف أرجاء العالم عن الأسى لضحايا المجاعة الكبرى، وشجبوا الأعمال والسياسات التي سببت المجاعة الكبرى وموت الملايين من الناس.

I would like to draw the attention of delegates to the fact that it is only today, after 70 years, that the world has started to learn the truth about the Great Famine in Ukraine.
وأود أن أسترعي انتباه المندوبين إلى أن العالم بدأ اليوم فقط، بعد 70 عاما، يعرف الحقيقة عن المجاعة الكبرى في أوكرانيا.

Recalling the resolution on remembrance of victims of the Great Famine (Holodomor) in Ukraine 1932-1933, adopted on 1 November 2007 by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO),
وإذ تشير إلى القرار المتعلق بذكرى ضحايا المجاعة الكبرى في أوكرانيا في عامي 1932 و 1933، الذي اعتمدته اليونسكو في 1 تشرين الثاني/نوفمبر 2007،

The Ukrainian people had themselves been victims of genocide for the Great Famine of 1932-1933, which had been deliberately organized by the Communist regime, had killed 25 per cent of the population.
وقد عانى الشعب الأوكراني نفسه من الإبادة الجماعية أثناء المجاعة الكبرى في الفترة 1932-1933، التي نظمها بتعمد النظام الشيوعي، مما أسفر عن مقتل 25 في المائة من السكان.

We in Ukraine are also grateful to the Senates of Argentina, Australia and Canada, the United States House of Representatives and the Parliament of Hungary for adopting this year their own documents on the Great Famine.

37. In 2007, Ukraine would be marking the seventy-fifth anniversary of the Great Famine (Holodomor), a man-made famine organized by the totalitarian Kremlin regime that had caused the death of between 7 and 10 million people or 25 per cent of Ukraine's population.
