With regard to illicit drug crop eradication and alternative development, the following recommendations are made:

Recognizing that alternative development programmes have proved to be a useful tool in efforts to eradicate illicit drug crop cultivation,

Support to the development of an international monitoring mechanism for the illicit cultivation of narcotic crops

In view of the ongoing exercise to strengthen national monitoring mechanisms, it is expected that an international system for monitoring the extent and evolution of the illicit cultivation of narcotic crops, and their yields, will be operational in the course of the biennium.
وبالنظر الى العملية الجارية الرامية الى تعزيز آليات الرصد الوطنية، من المتوقع للنظام الدولي لرصد مدى وتطور زراعة المحاصيل المخدرة غير المشروعة وغلالها أن يبلغ مرحلة التشغيل في أثناء فترة السنتين.

It is in this regard that the plan of action developed by UNDCP for the eradication of narcotic crops should include activities for the eradication of cannabis plants.

FAO is continuing to cooperate with UNDCP on pilot projects to determine the location of narcotic crop cultivation sites using satellite remote sensing data.

Alternative development activities will focus on the follow-up to the Action Plan on International Cooperation on the Eradication of Illicit Drugs crops and on Alternative Development endorsed by the special session (A/S-20/4, part E).
