The present report has been prepared in response to paragraph 8 of resolution 2011/6 of the Economic and Social Council, in which the Council requested the Secretary-General to submit to it at its substantive session of 2012 a report on the implementation of the resolution, with particular emphasis placed on progress in promoting system-wide accountability on gender equality and the empowerment of women at both the global and country levels.
