On 28 April the Special Rapporteur jointly with the Chairman-Rapporteur of the Working Group on Arbitrary Detention and the Special Rapporteur on the question of torture transmitted an urgent appeal to the Government of the Sudan concerning 26 individuals who were detained under unclear circumstances.

On 20 July 1999, the Special Rapporteur sent an urgent appeal jointly with the ChairmanRapporteur of the Working Group on Arbitrary Detention and the Special Rapporteur on torture concerning the situation of 20 people who were reportedly arrested by the Indonesian National Army (TNI) on 9 July 1999 in Teunom subdistrict.

22. Similarly, a joint communication was sent by the Working Group on Arbitrary Detention and the Special Rapporteurs on the right to freedom of opinion and expression and on the situation of human rights defenders concerning information that 102 persons had been subjected to two months of pretrial detention and charged with crimes related to the incidents of 1 March 2008.
