1. In its report on its sixth session (E/2007/43), the Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues made recommendations to the United Nations system, including to the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) and human rights mechanisms.

38. In 2007, the initiative organized an international forum on conservation and sustainable management, during which the representative of the Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues made a presentation, emphasizing the importance of the systems for indigenous peoples.

Mr. Heines (Norway), speaking on behalf of the Nordic countries, said that the Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues had underscored the importance of the Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples for advancing the rights and aspirations of the world's indigenous peoples and had recommended its adoption without amendments.
