The present note has been prepared following a decision of the Forum at its fifth session to develop a questionnaire designed to enhance the reporting of intergovernmental organizations to the Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues.

In 1994, the Committee had received and granted 43 requests for observer status and, following the procedure established in 1993, had invited intergovernmental organizations to participate in the plenary meetings at which the question of cooperation between the United Nations and regional organizations in the maintenance of international peace and security had been discussed.

3. Draws the attention of the General Assembly, specialized agencies, United Nations bodies and intergovernmental organizations to the contradiction between the existence of situations of extreme poverty and exclusion from society, which must be overcome, and the duty to guarantee full enjoyment of human rights;
٣ ـ توجه نظر الجمعية العامة والوكالات المتخصصة وهيئات اﻷمم المتحدة وكذلك المنظمات الحكومية الدولية إلى التناقض القائم بين وجود حالات من الفقر المدقع والحرمان الاجتماعي، يجب وضع نهاية لها، وواجب ضمان التمتع الكامل بحقوق اﻹنسان؛

23. Many representatives noted with satisfaction that the General Assembly had authorized the Committee to invite intergovernmental organizations to participate in its debate on the question of enhancing cooperation between the United Nations and regional organizations.
٢٣ - ولاحظ كثير من الممثلين مع الارتياح أن الجمعية العامة قد أذنت للجنة بدعوة المنظمات الحكومية الدولية إلى الاشتراك في مناقشتها لمسألة تعزيز التعاون بين اﻷمم المتحدة والمنظمات الاقليمية.

In its decision 2/CP.1, the COP invited intergovernmental organizations to make contributions of experts and/or resources, where possible, to assist the secretariat in undertaking the review of national communications.

In the report on each special session, which had been approved by the Council, the former Committee requested the Commission on Sustainable Development to invite all States, entities within the United Nations system and other intergovernmental organizations to consider, as appropriate, a number of specific actions aimed at facilitating the provision of energy services to rural areas, on a priority basis.
