This NGO Planning Committee has established a Steering Committee to assist in facilitating full participation of non-governmental organizations in the preparatory process for the Conference and the Conference itself.

12. At its 3rd meeting, on 1 June, the Preparatory Committee adopted a draft decision (A/AC.256/L.2) on the participation of non-governmental organizations in the preparatory process (see para. 25, decision 4).

Recognizing the importance of the participation of non-governmental organizations in the preparatory process and in the Summit itself, the Preparatory Committee, at its organizational session, adopted modalities for the participation of those organizations in the Summit and its preparatory process.

Noting also that the Executive Director has held regular consultations with representatives of non-governmental organizations, and has facilitated the involvement of non-governmental organizations in the preparatory process for the United Nations Conference on Human Settlements (Habitat II) to the extent possible within available resources,

16. In organizing the regional preparatory meetings for the Durban Review Conference in Brasilia, from 17 to 19 June 2008, and in Abuja, from 24 to 26 August 2008, OHCHR coordinated with the United Nations country teams and requested through the Regional Coordinators that United Nations agencies in the respective regions support and facilitate the participation of non-governmental organizations in the preparatory process.
16- وعند تنظيم الاجتماعين التحضيريين لمؤتمر ديربان الاستعراضي في برازيليا في الفترة من 17 إلى 19 حزيران/يونيه 2008، وفي أبوجا في الفترة من 24 إلى 26 آب/أغسطس 2008 نسقت المفوضية مع الأفرقة القطرية التابعة للأمم المتحدة وطلبت عن طريق المنسقين الإقليميين أن تدعم وكالات الأمم المتحدة وتيسر في مختلف المناطق مشاركة المنظمات غير الحكومية في العملية التحضيرية.

The Preparatory Committee invited the High Commissioner to draw up a draft declaration and programme of action for the World Conference and to transmit it to the inter-sessional open-ended working group it established to consider the framework for the provisional agenda for the World Conference; and adopted three decisions concerning participation by NGOs in the preparatory process and the World Conference itself.
ودعت اللجنة التحضيرية المفوضة السامية إلى وضع مشروع إعلان وبرنامج عمل للمؤتمر العالمي وإحالته إلى الفريق العامل المفتوح العضوية العقود بين الدورات الذي أنشأته من أجل النظر في إطار جدول الأعمال المؤقت للمؤتمر العالمي؛ واعتمدت ثلاثة مقررات تتعلق بمشاركة المنظمات غير الحكومية في العملية التحضيرية وفي المؤتمر العالمي ذاته.
