I carried out a raid in the al-Bahr district on an agricultural engineer called Abdulmun'im Muhammad Abdulrahman. He was a member of the Ba'th party and was suspected of having a fax machine.
فأنا داهمت في بحري مهندس زراعي عبد المنعم محمد عبد الرحمن، وهو بعثي ومتهم بحوزة جهاز الفاكس، وفتشنا البيت حتى آذان الصبح ولم نعثر على شيء، وغادرنا منزله بعد ما تركنا الاستدعاء معه.

وقيل إن العضو السابق في البرلمان السيد عبد المنعم أبو زنط أعلن أن الكاتب حرّف الكلمات المقدسة التي أُلهم بها النبي يوسف في مصر ونعت الكاتب بالمرتد وطلب منه أن يتوب وإلا سوف تعلن السلطات أنه مرتد مما يؤدي إلى طلاقه وإلى تطبيق حكم الإعدام بحقه.

Among those cases, the Government stated that for those persons acquitted by the military court, particularly Abdul Moneim Gamal el-Din Abdul Moneim, Hussein Taha Umar Affifi, Amre Muhammad Ali al-Iraqi, Tariq Mansour Ali, Hassan Makkawi Hassanein Makkawi and Muhammad Ali al-Sayyed Higazi, the court had not been convinced of the truth of the allegations of torture.

142. With respect to Fath ul-Bab Abdul Moneim Sha'lan, who was allegedly beaten to death, and his son, Yaser Fath ul-Bab Abdull Moneim Sha'lan, who was allegedly tortured at Helwan police station in August 1994, the DPP had referred the case to the Southern Cairo Criminal Court, where it was being heard.
٢٤١- وفيما يتعلق بفتح الباب عبد المنعم شعلان، الذي زُعم بأنه ضُرب حتى الموت، وولده ياسر فتح الباب عبد المنعم شعلان، الذي زُعم بأنه عُذب في قسم شرطة حلوان في آب/أغسطس ٤٩٩١، فقد أحال مكتب المدعي العام هذه القضية إلى محكمة جنايات جنوب القاهرة، حيث يجري النظر فيها.

467. On 25 July 1996 the Special Rapporteur made an urgent appeal in conjunction with the Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in the Sudan on behalf of Moneim Attia and Nagib Nejm al-Din, former Secretary General of the Sudan Doctors' Union, who were reportedly arrested in Khartoum on 8 and 13 July 1996 respectively.
٧٦٤- وفي ٥٢ تموز/يوليه ٦٩٩١، وجه المقرر الخاص نداءً عاجلاً بالاشتراك مع المقرر الخاص المعني بحالة حقوق اﻹنسان في السودان لصالح عبد المنعم عطية ونجيب نجم الدين، اﻷمين العام السابق لنقابة اﻷطباء السودانية، اللذين أُفيدا أنه أُلقي القبض عليهما في الخرطوم في ٨ و٣١ تموز/يوليه ٦٩٩١ على التوالي.

١٤٢- في الحالات الفردية التالية قيل إن التحقيقات التي تقوم بها الحكومة مستمرة: محمد السيد أحمد سعيد، وأمير حمدي سالم، وهشام مبارك حسن، واحمد اسماعيل محمود سلامه، وعادل سيد قاسم شعبان، وعامر عبد المنعم محمد علي، ومحمد رشاد عبد الرحيم الامام، ومحمد السيد السيد حجازي، ومحمد عفيفي مطر.

Concerning the case of Fath ul-Bab Abdul Moneim Sha’lan, allegedly beaten to death, and his son Yasser, allegedly tortured at Helwan police station in August 1994, the Government replied that the Department of Public Prosecutions had indicted one of the officers and other persons charged with using excessive force and causing injury.
١٠٦- وفيما يتعلق بحالة فتح الباب عبد المنعم شعلان، الذي زعم أنه ضرب حتى الموت، وبحالة إبنه ياسر، الذي زعم تعذيبه في مركز شرطة حلوان في آب/أغسطس ١٩٩٤، فقد ردت الحكومة بأن إدارة النيابات العامة قد أدانت أحد الموظفين وأشخاصا آخرين اتهموا باستخدام القوة المفرطة والتسبب في إلحاق اﻷذى.
