Armed conflicts provide by far the highest threat to the security of media professionals.
33- وتسفر المنازعات المسلحة عن أكبر قدر من المخاطر التي تهدد أمن العاملين في المهن الإعلامية.

The main provisions protecting journalists and other media professionals in situations of armed conflict come from humanitarian law, in particular from special measures contained in article 79 of Protocol I to the Geneva Conventions of 12 August 1949, relating to the protection of victims of international armed conflicts.
34- والأحكام الرئيسية التي تحمي الصحفيين وغيرهم من العاملين في المهن الإعلامية في حالات المنازعات المسلحة مصدرها القانون الإنساني، لا سيما التدابير الخاصة الواردة في المادة 79 من البروتوكول الأول الملحق باتفاقيات جنيف المؤرخة 12 آب/أغسطس 1949، والمتصل بحماية ضحايا المنازعات المسلحة الدولية.

وأوصت منظمة الأمم المتحدة للتربية والعلم والثقافة (اليونسكو) بتعزيز القدرات في ميدان معايير الصحافة وآداب مهنة الصحافة لوضع آلية التنظيم الذاتي لوسائل الإعلام التي تستهدف أصحاب المهن الإعلامية وراسمي السياسات على السواء(77).

In its General Recommendation No. 29, focusing on descent-based discrimination, CERD called on States Parties to " take measures to raise awareness among media professionals of the nature and incidence of descent-based discrimination " .
ولقد ركّزت لجنة القضاء على التمييز العنصري في توصيتها العامة رقم 29 على التمييز القائم على أساس الأصل فدعت الدول الأطراف إلى " اتخاذ تدابير لتوعية ذوي المهن الإعلامية بطبيعة وآثار التمييز القائم على النسب وبمدى شيوعه " ().

Chapter II presents an overall review of the main issues addressed by the Special Rapporteur throughout his mandate, specifically in the realms of the right of access to information, safety and protection of media professionals, legal restrictions on freedom of opinion and expression as well as the impact of freedom of expression on the realization of other human rights.
