In this debate, I would like to draw attention to three issues: first, the conservation and sustainable use of marine resources; secondly, oceans and marine biodiversity; and, thirdly, the ongoing work under the Convention with respect to the continental shelf.

It was also pointed out that the Convention recognized the importance of cooperation and coordination in addressing the conservation and sustainable use of marine resources beyond areas of national jurisdiction, an important aspect of which was the transfer of marine technology.
