155. According to this Law, the goal of registering Georgian citizens and resident aliens (including stateless persons) is to establish data on them and to exercise their rights and duties.

156. Georgian citizens and resident aliens are required to register themselves in their place of residence, which is considered to be the place chosen by the individual himself/herself.

3. The Government indicated that the Russian Federation has implemented a discriminative policy towards ethnic Georgians and Georgian nationals residing within its territory, including requiring secondary schools to report to the police the list of students who had Georgian surnames and, in some instances, requesting teachers to submit information regarding the moral behaviour of the Georgian students towards other students and teachers.
3- وأشارت الحكومة إلى أن سلطات الاتحاد الروسي تنفذ سياسة تمييزية إزاء الأفراد المنحدرين من أصل جورجي وإزاء المواطنين الجورجيين المقيمين داخل إقليمه، وتطلب، في إطار هذه السياسة التمييزية، إلى المدارس الثانوية أن تمد الشرطة بقائمة الطلاب الذين يحملون اسماً عائلياً جورجياً، كما أنها تطلب، في بعض الحالات، إلى المدرسين تقديم معلومات عن السلوك الأخلاقي للطلاب الجورجيين إزاء الطلاب الآخرين والمدرسين.

22. The Government of Georgia and the humanitarian agencies continued to work towards the implementation of the " new approach " to assistance for internally displaced persons, whereby those persons are treated like all other citizens of Georgia and are provided with aid at the location of displacement, pending their eventual return (see S/2000/345, para. 24).

After this incident, in autumn 2006, the Russian government began to identify and forcibly deport large numbers of Georgians residing in Russia, based solely on their ethnic origin and nationality.
