The report highlights the progress made by the Ad Hoc Committee for the Negotiation of a Convention against Corruption regarding the issue of preventing and combating corrupt practices and the transfer of funds of illicit origin and the returning of such assets to the countries of origin.
ويسلّط التقرير الضوء على التقدّم الذي أحرزته اللجنة المخصصة للتفاوض بشأن اتفاقية لمكافحة الفساد فيما يتعلق بمسألة منع ومكافحة الممارسات الفاسدة وإحالة الأموال ذات المصدر غير المشروع وإرجاع تلك الموجودات إلى بلدانها الأصلية.

The representative of Egypt underscored, in the light of the " Arab spring " , the urgent need to trace and recover assets looted by corrupt officials, with a view to returning those assets to the countries of origin, thus contributing to the welfare of the citizens of those countries.
79- وشدَّد ممثّل مصر، في ضوء الربيع العربي، على الحاجة الملحَّة إلى تعقُّب الموجودات التي نهبها الموظفون الفاسدون واستردادها، بغية إرجاع تلك الموجودات إلى بلدانها الأصلية لتسهم في رفاه مواطنيها.

To that end, a Commonwealth working group on asset repatriation was established to examine the issue of the recovery of assets of illicit origin and return of those assets to the countries of origin, focusing on maximizing cooperation and assistance between Governments, as well as to prepare a report with specific recommendations for the advancement of effective action in that area.

In the report of the Secretary-General of 8 July 2003 on preventing and combating corrupt practices and transfer of funds of illicit origin and returning such assets to the countries of origin (A/58/125), a number of obstacles were identified in asset recovery.
41- تم تحديد عدد من العقبات التي تعترض سبيل استرداد الموجودات في التقرير المؤرخ 8 تموز/يوليه 2003، الذي قدمه الأمين العام بشأن منع ومكافحة الممارسات الفاسدة وإحالة الأموال ذات المصدر غير المشروع وإرجاع تلك الموجودات إلى بلدانها الأصلية (A/58/125).

1. At its 2nd plenary meeting, on 19 September 2003, the General Assembly, on the recommendation of the General Committee, decided to include in the agenda of its fifty-eighth session the item entitled " Sectoral policy questions: preventing and combating corrupt practices and transfer of funds of illicit origin and returning such assets to the countries of origin " and to allocate it to the Second Committee.
