The majority of attacks leading to hijacked vessels took place in the western Indian Ocean. This compares with 269 reported attacks and 30 ships hijacked during the same period in 2011.

Pursuant to these resolutions, as well as resolution 1816 (2008), States are assisting the Transitional Federal Government of Somalia by, inter alia, providing naval assets to patrol the waters off the coast of Somalia and are cooperating in the capture and prosecution of suspected offenders.
