In this context, we welcome the recent Special Ministerial meeting of the Security Council, which has helped focus the attention of the international community on Africa.

The holding last 25 September of the Security Council's Special Ministerial meeting on the situation in Africa was certainly a sign of that interest.

A draft of the Plan of Action was discussed by a Special Ministerial Conference on Small Island Developing States held at FAO headquarters on 12 March 1999, and a revised version of it was subsequently endorsed by the FAO Council at the one hundred and sixteenth session mentioned above.

Acknowledging the central place of the 1994 Barbados Programme of Action for the Sustainable Development of Small Island Developing States, we recognize that the results of this Special Ministerial Conference will make an important contribution to the international effort and the work of the United Nations in addressing the special needs and problems of small island developing States.
٤ - وإذ نلاحظ الوضع المحوري لبرنامج عمل بربادوس للتنمية المستدامة في الدول الجزرية الصغيرة النامية لعام ١٩٩٤، نقر بأن نتائج المؤتمر الوزاري الخاص سوف تشكل مساهمة هامة في الجهود الدولية، وأعمال اﻷمم المتحدة الرامية إلى تلبية الاحتياجات الخاصة للدول الجزرية الصغيرة النامية ومعالجة مشكلاتها.

As a member of the Group of 77, my delegation cannot fail to refer here to the importance of the Special Ministerial Declaration on an Agenda for Development, adopted by the Group of 77 on 24 June 1994, in which the views of the developing countries on critical areas of action were articulated.

A Special Ministerial conference on agriculture in small island developing States, organized by FAO in March 1999, proposed a Plan of Action addressing the special concerns of agriculture, forestry and fisheries of this group of States.
واقترح المؤتمر الوزاري الخاص عن الزراعة في الدول الجزرية الصغيرة النامية الذي نظمته منظمة الأغذية والزراعة في آذار/مارس 1999 خطة عمل تتناول المسائل التي تشغل بوجه خاص بال هذه المجموعة من الدول في مجالات الزراعة والحراجة ومصائد الأسماك.
