20. On 26 November 1993, the Secretary-General presented a report 11/ to the Security Council on UNMIH.

1. The present report is the third in a series of reports that I have been submitting to the Security Council on the activities of the Electoral Division of the United Nations Observer Mission in El Salvador (ONUSAL) until the elections scheduled for 20 March 1994 are held.

1. The present report is the fourth in a series of reports that I have been submitting to the Security Council on the activities of the Electoral Division of the United Nations Observer Mission in El Salvador (ONUSAL) concerning the elections of 20 March 1994.

In this connection, the Secretary-General indicated that he would report to the Security Council on the organization and timing of the referendum after the consultations he intended to hold during his visit to the area in November 1994.

I added, however, that, if the new Government were to request a post-UNTAC military presence, with a clear indication of the tasks it would be expected to perform, I would of course give careful consideration to such a request and submit a report to the Security Council on the feasibility of the tasks proposed and the resources that would be required to carry them out.

Accordingly, on 30 May 1994, the Secretary-General submitted a full report to the Security Council on the course of the negotiations (S/1994/629).

25. The activities of UNFICYP, including those relating to its humanitarian responsibilities, are described in the Secretary-General's most recent reports to the Security Council on the operation in Cyprus (S/1994/680 and S/1994/1407).

It is in that spirit that Gabon studied the remarkable report (A/52/871) that the Secretary-General, Mr. Kofi Annan, submitted to the Security Council on the causes of conflict in Africa.

17. The countries contributing to the force will continue to provide, pursuant to their obligations under resolution 1101 (1997), timely reports to the Security Council on the implementation of the resolution.
١٧ - وستواصل البلدان المساهمة في القوة، عملا بالتزاماتها بموجب القرار ١١٠١ )١٩٩٧(، تقديم تقارير في حينها الى مجلس اﻷمن عن تنفيذ هذا القرار.

17. Careful consideration should be given to the proposals to institute annual meetings between the Security Council and the Economic and Social Council and to invite the latter to submit reports to the Security Council on economic and social developments, as those arrangements might create unexpected problems for the States Members of the United Nations.
١٧ - وقال إنه يرى أيضا أن من الضروري النظر بعناية في اقتراح عقد اجتماع سنوي بين مجلس اﻷمن والمجلس الاقتصادي والاجتماعي، وفي اقتراح دعوة هذا اﻷخير الى تقديم تقارير الى مجلس اﻷمن عن التطور الاقتصادي والاجتماعي، ﻷن من شأن ذلك كله أن يثير للدول اﻷعضاء في اﻷمم المتحدة مشاكل غير متوقعة.

In his latest report to the Security Council on the question of South Africa (S/25004) the Secretary-General observes, inter alia, that the international observers have had a salutary effect on the political situation in general;

2.2 The Department is also responsible for liaison with Member States concerning their participation in peace-keeping operations and for the provision of periodic progress reports to the Security Council on each peace-keeping operation and, upon request, reports on various related issues to the Special Committee on Peace-keeping Operations and the General Assembly.
٢-٢ والادارة مسؤولة أيضا عن الاتصال مع الدول اﻷعضاء بشأن مشاركتها في عمليات حفظ السلم كما هي مسؤولة عن تقديم تقارير مرحلية دورية الى مجلس اﻷمن عن كل عملية من عمليات حفظ السلم وتقارير عن مختلف المسائل ذات الصلة تقدم حسب الطلب الى اللجنة الخاصة المعنية بعمليات حفظ السلم والى الجمعية العامة.
