C. Participation of associate members of regional commissions in the Conference and its preparatory process

The Commission also requested member countries to devise, through their representatives to the Economic and Social Council, the necessary mechanism for the participation of associate members of the regional commissions in the work of the Council and its subsidiary bodies.

9. In contrast, at the Global Conference on the Sustainable Development of Small Island Developing States, scheduled for 1994, initially there had been no provision for non-independent Territories to participate, although subsequently a recommendation had been made to the General Assembly to invite associate members of regional commissions to participate in the Conference as observers, without the right to vote.
٩ - أما فيما يتعلق بالمؤتمر العالمي المعني بالتنمية المستدامة للدول النامية الجزرية الصغيرة، المقرر انعقاده في عام ١٩٩٤، فإن مشاركة اﻷقاليم غيــــر المستقلة لم تكـن مقررة في البداية، ولكن صدرت فيما بعد توصية إلى الجمعية العامة بدعوة اﻷعضاء المنتسبين في اللجان الاقليمية للمشاركة في هذا المؤتمر بصفة مراقب دون حق التصويت.

15. In an effort to garner additional support for the draft resolution, explicit mention of Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) resolution 598 (XXX) of 2 July 2004 on the participation of associate members in the United Nations world conferences and special sessions had been removed.
15 - وفي إطار الجهود المبذولة من أجل الحصول على دعم إضافي لمشروع القرار، تم حذف الإشارة الصريحة إلى قرار المجلس الاقتصادي لأمريكا اللاتينية ومنطقة البحر الكاريبي 598 (د-30) المؤرخ 2 تموز/يوليه 2004 عن مشاركة الأعضاء المنتسبين في المؤتمرات العالمية للأمم المتحدة والدورات الاستثنائية.

13. At the nineteenth session of CDCC, which was held in Port-of-Spain, on 14 and 15 March 2002, a recommendation was made that the ECLAC/CDCC secretariat resume the initiative commenced in the 1990s to promote the increased participation of the associate members in the activities of the wider United Nations system.
