On 28 June 1999, the delegation of the United Kingdom introduced, on behalf of the sponsors, a draft resolution on Iraq, seeking to re-establish a United Nations presence in Iraq by creating a new commission with the mandate to continue the disarmament and monitoring tasks in Iraq and to put in place new measures to implement some of the recommendations of the Iraqi panels.
