9. The High-level Conference on Economic Cooperation among Developing Countries was convened by the Group of 77 at Caracas in May 1981, a time of global crisis.

Economic Cooperation among Developing Countries and regional economic integration have been salient features of recent international cooperation.
٤٧ - وقد اتسم التعاون الدولي على نحو بارز، في الفترة اﻷخيرة، بالتعاون الاقتصادي فيما بين البلدان النامية وبالتكامل الاقتصادي اﻹقليمي.

Introductory statements 2. The Chairman said that there was currently a strong revival of interest in ECDC at a time of globalization and liberalization, and " open and flexible ECDC " represented a suitable strategy of development and global participation for developing countries.
٢- قال الرئيس إنه يظهر من جديد اﻵن اهتمام قوي بالتعاون الاقتصادي فيما بين البلدان النامية في وقت يتسم بالعولمة والتحرير، وإن إقامة " تعاون اقتصادي مفتوح ومرن " يمثل استراتيجية مناسبة لتنمية البلدان النامية ومشاركتها العالمية.

UNCTAD should continue to have a key role in that respect and remain the mainstay of ECDC work within the United Nations system.
