Their functions are to consider the data and other material submitted by coastal States concerning the outer limits of the continental shelf in areas where those limits extend beyond 200 nautical miles and to make recommendations in accordance with the provisions of the Convention.
والمهام التي يؤدونها هي دراسة البيانات والمواد اﻷخرى التي تقدمها الدول الساحلية فيما يتعلق بالحدود الخارجية للجرف القاري في المناطق التي تمتد فيها تلك الحدود وراء ٢٠٠ ميل بحري، وتقديم توصيات وفقا ﻷحكام الاتفاقية.

In regard to actions taken recently by the Commission in furtherance of the development of the knowledge and skills for preparation of a submission in respect of the outer limits of the continental shelf provided for by the Convention, paragraphs 61 to 64 describe the documents prepared and actions taken.

How to implement this provision relates to the interpretation and application of important principles of the Convention, and the overall interests of the international community, and is a key issue for the proper consideration of relevant submission concerning the outer limits of the continental shelf, and the safeguarding of the common heritage of mankind.
وتتعلق كيفية تنفيذ هذا الحكم بتفسير مبادئ مهمة من الاتفاقية وتطبيقها، وبالمصالح العامة للمجتمع الدولي، وهي مسألة أساسية للنظر بالشكل الملائم في الطلبات ذات الصلة المتعلقة بالحدود الخارجية للجرف القاري وحماية التراث المشترك للإنسانية.

It is only after consideration of the submissions that the Commission will issue recommendations regarding the outer limits of their continental shelf on the basis of which the coastal States will establish the continental shelf limits which " shall be final and binding " (article 76 (8) of the Convention). III. Postponement of the initial election of the members
ولن تصدر اللجنة توصيات فيما يتعلق بالحدود الخارجية للجرف القاري لتلك الدول إلا بعد النظر في الطلبات، وستقوم الدول الساحلية على أساس تلك التوصيات برسم حدود الجرف القاري التي تكون " نهائية وملزمة " (المادة 76 (8) من الاتفاقية).
