25. By its decision 20/COP.7, the COP welcomed the offer by the World Meteorological Organization to organize an international workshop on climate and land degradation.
25- رحب المؤتمر في مقرره 20/م أ-7 بعرض المنظمة العالمية للأرصاد الجوية المتعلق بتنظيم حلقة عمل دولية تعنى بالمناخ وتردي الأراضي.

Considering that globally a majority of people are subsistence farmers, often poor, who inhabit large land areas, the empowerment of local farmers needs to be a key focus of climate and land degradation work.
ونظراً إلى أن معظم السكان على الصعيد العالمي هم من مزارعي الكفاف، وكثير منهم فقراء يعيشون في مناطق واسعة، فإن تمكين المزراعين المحليين ينبغي أن يكون محوراً رئيسياً في التدابير المتعلقة بالمناخ وتردي الأراضي.

Currently climate and land degradation information and data sources are inadequate in most areas of the world and the establishment of a better network of observatories should be promoted and supported especially in developing countries;
(و) إن مصادر المعلومات والبيانات المتعلقة بالمناخ وتردي الأراضي ليست كافية في الوقت الحالي في معظم مناطق العالم، وينبغي تعزيز ودعم إنشاء شبكة أفضل من المراصد، ولا سيما في البلدان النامية؛

There are climate and land degradation links between water scarcity, food insecurity, potential health impacts, low incomes and potential land/resource degradation.
وثمة صلات تتعلق بالمناخ وتردي الأراضي عناصرُها شُحّ المياه، وانعدام الأمن الغذائي، والآثار الصحية المحتملة، وقلة الدخل، واحتمال تردي الأراضي/الموارد.

At an international workshop on climate and land degradation in Arusha, United Republic of Tanzania, in December 2006, experts in the area of climate and land degradation noted that trends in land degradation are assessed differently in various parts of the world.
في إطار حلقة عمل دولية معنية بالمناخ وتردي الأراضي عُقدت في أروشا بجمهورية تنزانيا المتحدة، في كانون الأول/ديسمبر 2006، أوضح خبراء في مجال المناخ وتردي الأراضي أن الاتجاهات المتعلقة بتردي الأراضي تُقيّم على نحو مختلف في مناطق شتى من العالم.

Monitoring and assessing are important to provide relevant information and generate knowledge and understanding on climate and land degradation and the links between them;

24. In its discussions on this agenda item, the Committee may wish to take into account the recommendations made during the Arusha workshop on climate and land degradation (see paragraph 25 below), and consider how further collaboration could be developed on this subject taking into account the need to develop and strengthen synergy.
24- وفي أثناء مناقشة هذا البند من بنود جدول الأعمال، قد ترغب اللجنة في أن تأخذ في الاعتبار التوصيات التي قًدمت في أثناء حلقة عمل أروشا المعنية بالمناخ وتردي الأراضي (انظر الفقرة 25 أدناه)، وأن تنظر في طريقة مواصلة التعاون التي يمكن تطويرها بشأن هذا الموضوع، آخذة في اعتبارها الحاجة إلى تطوير وتعزيز التآزر.
