His delegation welcomed the fact that the new information and communication strategy would take account of those inadequacies, and it commended the efforts of the Department of Public Information aimed at ensuring that the widest possible public would become aware of, interested in and involved in the activities of the United Nations.

The Committee notes the information provided in paragraphs 26.17 to 26.19 of the proposed programme budget and welcomes the efforts of the Department of Public Information to rationalize its work and to collaborate and coordinate with other departments and offices of the Secretariat in the delivery of information and communications services in order to optimize the use of resources and avoid duplication.
