The agenda of the meeting touched on a broad range of public policy issues related to the Internet, in line with the definition of Internet governance as set out in the Tunis Agenda for the Information Society.

A. Progress towards implementation of paragraph 71 of the Tunis Agenda for the Information Society

Referring also to the outcome of the two phases of the World Summit on the Information Society, held in Geneva in 2003 and in Tunis in 2005, in particular the Tunis Agenda on the Information Society and the international mechanisms and forums it generated,

In recognition of the multi-stakeholder efforts needed at all levels to achieve the objectives of the Summit, the Tunis Agenda for the Information Society established clear mechanisms for implementation and follow-up at the national, regional and international levels.

3. The Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) was requested by the Tunis Agenda for the Information Society to oversee the UN system-wide follow-up of the outcomes of the Geneva and Tunis Phases of the Summit.

The Ministers, therefore strongly urged the UN Secretary General to start urgently the process towards enhanced cooperation, as referred to in paragraphs 69 to 71 of the Tunis Agenda for the Information Society of the second phase of the Summit.

The Heads of State and Government expressed their deep concern over the long delay in starting the process towards enhanced cooperation by the UN Secretary General, as referred to in paragraphs 69 to 71 of the Tunis Agenda for the Information Society of the second phase of the Summit.

During these two meetings, the Group sought, compiled and reviewed in an open and inclusive manner inputs from Member States and other stakeholders on improvements to the IGF, in line with the mandate set out in the Tunis Agenda for the Information Society.

The one-day meeting proposed in the resolution provided another opportunity for Member States to enhance cooperation on international Internet public policy issues as set forth by the Tunis Agenda for the Information Society.
