On 13 November, consultations of the whole were held on Ethiopia and Eritrea, in which the Assistant Secretary-General for Rule of Law and Security Institutions (Department of Peacekeeping Operations), Dmitry Titov, briefed the Council.

The Security Council held consultations on 21 December and was briefed by the Assistant Secretary-General for Peacekeeping Operations, Hédi Annabi, on the progress report of the Secretary-General on Ethiopia and Eritrea (S/2004/973 and Corr.1).

At an open meeting held on 14 August, the Under-Secretary-General for Peacekeeping Operations, Bernard Miyet, briefed the Council members on the latest report of the Secretary-General on Ethiopia and Eritrea (S/2000/785).
