496. At its fifty-third session, the Committee noted that the General Assembly had commended its work regarding the examination of reports and action on communications under article 14 of the Convention.

At its eighth session, the SBI took note of the views expressed by Parties on communications from Parties not included in Annex I to the Convention and the observations by the secretariat on these communications as contained in documents FCCC/SBI/1998/INF.3 and Add.1.

Its precise and often groundbreaking concluding observations on State party reports and its Views on communications under the Optional Protocol had advanced people's understanding of the nature and scope of the obligations incumbent on States parties.
وطوّرت في ملاحظاتها الختامية الدقيقة والمبتكرة في كثير من الأحيان بشأن تقارير الدول الأطراف وفي آرائها بشأن البلاغات المقدمة بموجب البروتوكول الاختياري فهم الناس لطبيعة الالتزامات التي تقع على عاتق الدول الأطراف ونطاقها.

It encourages the State party to adopt this legislative amendment, which will further improve the implementation of the Committee's Views on communications under the Optional Protocol, including the provision of compensation.

2. Commends the Committee for its work with regard to the implementation of the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination,1 especially the examination of reports under article 9 and action on communications under article 14 of the Convention;
