The work under way under the Convention on Biological Diversity to provide scientific and technical guidance on the use and further development of biogeographic classification systems and on the identification of areas beyond national jurisdiction which meet the Convention's scientific criteria presents an opportunity for cooperation and coordination among and between States and relevant organizations on scientific and technical aspects.
