160. In its resolution 2000/19, the Sub-Commission also recommended to the Commission on Human Rights and to the Economic and Social Council for adoption a draft decision proposing that the updated report on slavery submitted to the Sub-Commission as documents E/CN.4/Sub.2/2000/3 and Add.1 should be compiled, without financial implications, into a single report, printed in all official languages and given the widest possible distribution.

Article 1 (a) of the 1956 Supplementary Convention on slavery defines debt bondage as " the status or condition arising from a pledge by a debtor of his personal services or of those of a person under his control as security for a debt, if the value of those services as reasonably assessed is not applied towards the liquidation of the debt or the length and nature of those services are not respectively limited and defined " .
وتعرف المادة 1(أ) من الاتفاقية التكميلية بشأن الرق لعام 1956 عبودية (إسار) الدين بأنها " الحال أو الوضع الناجم عن ارتهان مدين بتقديم خدماته الشخصية أو خدمات شخص تابع له ضماناً لدين عليه، إذا كانت القيمة المنصفة لهذه الخدمات لا تستخدم لتصفية هذا الدين أو لم تكن مدة هذه الخدمات أو طبيعتها محددة " .

47. Servitude and other slavery-like practices prohibited by article 8 of the Covenant on Civil and Political Rights extend beyond the specific instances recognized by the 1956 Supplementary Convention on slavery and includes other cases of economic exploitation in which the victim is so dependent on the perpetrator that s/he cannot leave the situation of exploitation.
47- تمتد العبودية والممارسات الأخرى الشبيهة بالرق المحظورة بموجب المادة 8 من العهد الدولي الخاص بالحقوق المدنية والسياسية إلى ما هو أبعد من الحالات المحددة التي تعترف بها الاتفاقية التكميلية بشأن الرق لعام 1956 وتشمل حالات أخرى من الاستغلال الاقتصادي يكون فيها الضحية معتمداً على الجاني إلى درجة كبيرة بحيث لا يستطيع أن يبتعد عن حالة الاستغلال().
