As a result of these consultations and further deliberations among Parties, the SBSTA agreed to discuss the impacts of climate change on water resources and integrated water resource management under the agenda item on the Nairobi work programme on impacts, vulnerability and adaptation to climate change.

10. The opening of the workshop on the first day was followed by an introductory session, during which two presentations were made - one on the Nairobi work programme and the scope of the workshop, and another on the review of the existing literature on the potential costs and benefits of adaptation options and the synthesis report mentioned in paragraph 9 above.

Agreement on the Nairobi work programme on impacts, vulnerability and adaptation to climate change (see FCCC/SBSTA/2006/11, sect. III) under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, and on the principles, modalities and key governance elements of the Adaptation Fund under the Kyoto Protocol, provide a critical foundation to enhance the technical basis of adaptation and advance the implementation of activities on the ground.

At the same meeting, the COP, acting upon a proposal by the President, took note of the conclusions adopted by the SBSTA on the " Nairobi work programme on impacts, vulnerability and adaptation to climate change " and invited the SBSTA to continue its consideration of this item at its thirtieth session.

At its 9th meeting, on 18 - 19 December, the COP noted that the SBSTA had adopted conclusions on the Nairobi work programme on impacts, vulnerability and adaptation to climate change, and the SBI had adopted conclusions on progress on the implementation of decision 1/CP.10.

1. The Subsidiary Body for Scientific and Technological Advice (SBSTA), in its conclusions at its twenty-eighth session on the Nairobi work programme on impacts, vulnerability and adaptation to climate change, requested the secretariat to prepare a summary report on the results of the second phase of the implementation of the Nairobi work programme for the period up to SBSTA 32 for its consideration at SBSTA 33.
1- طلبت الهيئة الفرعية للمشورة العلمية والتكنولوجية، في الاستنتاجات التي اعتمدتها خلال دورتها الثامنة والعشرين بشأن برنامج عمل نيروبي المتعلق بتأثيرات تغير المناخ والقابلية للتأثر به والتكيف معه، من الأمانة إعداد تقرير موجز عن نتائج المرحلة الثانية من تنفيذ برنامج عمل نيروبي خلال الفترة الممتدة حتى الدورة الثانية والثلاثين للهيئة الفرعية كي تنظر فيه في دورتها الثالثة والثلاثين().

80. At its 9th meeting, on 10 December, the COP noted that the SBSTA had adopted conclusions on the Nairobi work programme on impacts, vulnerability and adaptation to climate change, and that the SBI had adopted conclusions on progress on the implementation of decision 1/CP.10.

40. The COP adopted further significant decisions relating to enhanced action on adaptation, including decisions 5/CP.17 (on national adaptation plans), 6/CP.17 (on the Nairobi work programme on impacts, vulnerability and adaptation to climate change), and 7/CP.17 (on the work programme on loss and damage), and requested the SBSTA and SBI to undertake further work on these matters.
