Today, we have before us the Secretary-General’s report A/54/220 on the implementation of the outcome of the World Summit for Social Development.

On 22 December 2005, at its sixtieth session, the General Assembly adopted resolution 60/203, on implementation of the outcome of the second United Nations Conference on Human Settlements and the strengthening of UN-Habitat, in which, among other things, it:
1 - اعتمدت الجمعية العامة، في 22 كانون الأول/ديسمبر 2005، في دورتها الستين، القرار 60/203، بشأن تنفيذ نتائج مؤتمر الأمم المتحدة الثاني للمستوطنات البشرية وتعزيز موئل الأمم المتحدة، والذي، تضمن جملة أمور منها، أن الجمعية:

The report contains useful information on follow-up activities undertaken by Governments and by the United Nations system since the adoption of last year’s General Assembly resolution on the implementation of the outcome of the World Summit for Social Development.

The Department of Economic and Social Affairs of the United Nations Secretariat, in particular the Division for Social Policy and Development, served as the secretariat for the special session of the General Assembly on the implementation of the outcome of the World Summit for Social Development and as the focal point for the first United Nations Decade for the Eradication of Poverty.

In addition, by paragraph 14 of resolution 51/177 of 16 December 1996, on implementation of the outcome of Habitat II, the General Assembly recommended that, at its special session, the Assembly should give due attention to the issue of human settlements in the context of sustainable development.
