As the secretariat of the Convention, the Division for Ocean Affairs and the Law of the Sea has a mandate to provide information and advice to States and intergovernmental organizations on the uniform and consistent application of the provisions of the Convention, including those relevant to the Repression of Piracy.

Bearing in mind the Code of Conduct concerning the Repression of Piracy and Armed Robbery against Ships in the Western Indian Ocean and the Gulf of Aden (Djibouti Code of Conduct),

16. In my previous report, I noted that the Djibouti Code of Conduct concerning the Repression of Piracy and Armed Robbery against Ships in the Western Indian Ocean and the Gulf of Aden had entered into force on 29 January 2009 with the signatures of nine regional States.

43. The Division for Ocean Affairs and the Law of the Sea of the Office of Legal Affairs, as the secretariat of the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea, has a mandate to assist States and international organizations in the uniform and consistent application of the provisions of the Convention, including those relating to the Repression of Piracy.
43 - وقد أسندت لشعبة شؤون المحيطات وقانون البحار التابعة لمكتب الشؤون القانونية، باعتبارها أمانة اتفاقية الأمم المتحدة لقانون البحار، ولاية مساعدة الدول والمنظمات الدولية في مجال التطبيق الموحد والمتسق لأحكام الاتفاقية، بما فيها الأحكام المتعلقة بقمع القرصنة.

Those bases enable a large number of States to fulfil their duty to cooperate in the Repression of Piracy to the fullest possible extent in accordance with article 100 of the Convention, a duty that was reaffirmed in Security Council resolution 1918 (2010).
وتتيح هذه الأسس المتنوعة لعدد كبير من الدول وسائل لممارسة " واجب التعاون " الذي يقع عليها فيما يتعلق بقمع القرصنة " إلى أقصى حد ممكن " ، وفقا للمادة 100 من الاتفاقية التي أشار إليها مجلس الأمن في قراره 1918 (2010).

IMO reported that the Code of Conduct concerning the Repression of Piracy and Armed Robbery against Ships in the Western Indian Ocean and the Gulf of Aden had been adopted on 29 January 2009 at a meeting convened by IMO in Djibouti, and signed at that time by nine States (see also para. 173 below).
وأبلغت المنظمة البحرية الدولية أن مدونة قواعد السلوك المتعلقة بقمع القرصنة والسطو المسلح على السفن في غرب المحيط الهندي وخليج عدن قد اعتُمدت في 29 كانون الثاني/يناير 2009 في اجتماع عقدته المنظمة البحرية الدولية في جيبوتي، ووقعها آنذاك تسع دول (انظر أيضاً الفقرة 173 أدناه)().

Part VII of UNCLOS contains the legal regime pertaining to the high seas, including specific provisions concerning the Repression of Piracy (see para. 57 below) and the suppression of illicit traffic in narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances (see para. 83 below).

The Division for Ocean Affairs and the Law of the Sea provides assistance to States in the uniform and consistent application of the provisions of the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea relating to the Repression of Piracy under international law, as part of its mandate (see para. 124).

Notes the continued implementation of the Code of Conduct concerning the Repression of Piracy and Armed Robbery against Ships in the Western Indian Ocean and the Gulf of Aden (Djibouti Code of Conduct), adopted on 29 January 2009 under the auspices of the International Maritime Organization, in the four thematic areas of information sharing, training, national legislation and capacity-building;
