The Ad Hoc Expert Group on approaches and mechanisms for Monitoring Assessment and Reporting of the United Nations Forum on Forests met from 8 to 12 December 2003 in Geneva.

3. At its third session, held in Geneva from 26 May to 6 June 2003, the Forum agreed on the establishment of the Ad Hoc Expert Group on approaches and mechanisms for Monitoring, Assessment and Reporting and to the convening of a meeting of the expert group.

This decision was subsequently endorsed by the Economic and Social Council in its decision 2003/299, in which it decided that the ad hoc expert groups on approaches and mechanisms for monitoring, assessment and reporting and on finance and transfer of environmentally sound technologies would be convened in Geneva from 8 to 19 December 2003.

4. The Ad Hoc Expert Group on approaches and mechanisms for Monitoring, Assessment and Reporting met at the Palais des Nations in Geneva from 8 to 12 December 2003.

32. The report of the Ad Hoc Expert Group on approaches and mechanisms for Monitoring, Assessment and Reporting provides a number of recommendations for improving assessment processes at the country level, which should be reviewed by the ad hoc expert group.

2. At its first session, the Forum adopted its multi-year programme of work,1 in which it recommended the convening of three ad hoc expert groups, one of which would be on approaches and mechanisms for monitoring, assessment and reporting.
2 - واعتمد منتدى الأمم المتحدة المعني بالغابات في دورته الأولى برنامج عمله المتعدد السنوات(1) الذي أوصى فيه بانعقاد ثلاثة أفرقة خبراء مخصصة، يعنى أحدها بنهج وآليات الرصد والتقييم والإبلاغ.

21. The Ad Hoc Expert Group on approaches and mechanisms for Monitoring, Assessment and Reporting transmits to the United Nations Forum on Forests, at its fourth session, for its consideration and appropriate action, the following conclusions and recommendations covering its tasks as envisaged in Economic and Social Council resolution 2003/299.
21 - يحيل فريق الخبراء المخصص المعني بنهج وآليات الرصد والتقييم والإبلاغ إلى المنتدى في دورته الرابعة، للنظر واتخاذ الإجراء المناسب، الاستنتاجات والتوصيات التالية التي تتناول مهامه على النحو المتوخى في قرار المجلس الاقتصادي والاجتماعي 2003/299.

(b) Decided that the meetings of the ad hoc expert groups on approaches and mechanisms for monitoring, assessment and reporting and on finance and transfer of environmentally sound technologies shall be convened in Geneva from 8 to 19 December 2003.
(ب) قرر أن تعقد اجتماعات فريقي الخبراء المخصصين المعنيين بنهج وآليات الرصد والتقييم والإبلاغ، وبتمويل ونقل التكنولوجيات السليمة بيئيا، في جنيف، في الفترة من 8 إلى 19 كانون الأول/ديسمبر 2003.

(a) A new preambular paragraph (a) bis was inserted as follows: " Decides that the meetings of the ad hoc expert groups on approaches and mechanisms for monitoring, assessment and reporting, and on finance and transfer of environmentally sound technologies, shall be convened in Geneva from 8 to 19 December 2003.
(أ) أُدرجت في الديباجة الفقرة الجديدة (أ) مكررا ونصها كالتالي " يقرر أن تُعقد اجتماعات أفرقة الخبراء المخصصة المعنية بنهج وآليات الرصد والتقييم والإبلاغ والتمويل ونقل التكنولوجيات السليمة بيئيا في جنيف في الفترة من 8 إلى 19 كانون الأول/ديسمبر 2003.

The ad hoc expert group on approaches and mechanisms for monitoring, assessment and reporting has proposed, for the consideration of the Forum at its fourth session, a way to assess progress towards sustainable forest management at the fifth session (see E/CN.18/2004/2).

(e) To provide input from the previous two Expert Groups: the report of the Ad Hoc Expert Group on approaches and mechanisms for monitoring, assessment and reporting (E/CN.18/2004/2), and the report of the Ad Hoc Expert Group on finance and transfer of environmentally sound technologies (E/CN.18/2004/5), in all United Nations languages. 53. The recommendations of the Ad Hoc Expert Group on approaches and mechanisms for Monitoring, Assessment and Reporting were taken into account in resolution 4/3,11 which was covered in the introductory paragraph of the previous section on follow-up to the IPF/IFF proposals for action.
