V. National human rights institutions and thematic issues A. Prevention of torture 41. Further to the entry into force of the Optional Protocol to the Convention against Torture and the establishment of the Subcommittee on Prevention of Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment (December 2002), OHCHR launched a survey on the role played by national human rights institutions in torture prevention.
