Guyana is a member of the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations, for which it was named a focal point in 2011, and a member of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, having also signed a number of the conventions of the organization.

558. The Secretariat-General participated in the first forum of the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations, held in Madrid from 15 to 16 January 2008. On the sidelines of the forum, a memorandum of understanding between the League of Arab States and the Alliance of Civilizations was signed, containing the following points:
557 - شاركت الأمانة العامة في المؤتمر الأول لمبادرة تحالف الحضارات التابع للأمم المتحدة الذي عقد في مدريد يومي 15 و 16/1/2008، وقد تم توقيع مذكرة تفاهم بين جامعة الدول العربية ومبادرة تحالف الحضارات على هامش أعمال هذا المؤتمر، وتضمنت النقاط التالية:

In this respect, the European Union would like to highlight the roles of UNESCO in promoting all aspects of intercultural dialogue and of the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations in promoting understanding and cooperative relations among nations and peoples across cultures and religions.
وفي هذا الصدد، يود الاتحاد الأوروبي إبراز دور منظمة الأمم المتحدة للتربية والعلم والثقافة (اليونسكو) في تعزيز جميع أوجه الحوار بين الثقافات وكذلك دور تحالف الحضارات التابع للأمم المتحدة في تعزيز التفاهم والعلاقات التعاونية بين الدول والشعوب المنتمية لمختلف الثقافات والأديان.
