Destruction of Cluster Munitions: Convention on Cluster Munitions

The statement called for the adoption of an agreement banning the use of cluster munitions in areas with dense civilian populations and for the destruction of cluster munitions as a grave humanitarian threat.

Paragraph 1 above allows for mid-term intermediate storage (separate from operational stocks) of prohibited cluster munitions awaiting destruction, taking into account the high costs involved in the destruction of cluster munitions.
