In the meantime, as an interim measure, the Mission conducted two river moves using commercial contractors to move 1,757 tons of cargo (approximately 10 per cent of total cargo moved for UNMIS) for a total cost of $1 million, recorded under budget lines " freight on deployment of contingent-owned equipment " and " other freight and related costs " .

The variance is attributable primarily to (a) reduced requirements for mine detection and mine-clearing services owing to the projected transfer of mine-clearing responsibilities to the Lebanese Armed Forces by 30 June 2009, (b) reduced requirements for other freight and related costs, and (c) reduced requirements for other rations, owing to the exclusion of reserve packs for civilian personnel.
