لحسن الحظ لم نصل لهذه المرحلة بعد ولكن دعونا لا نتظاهر بإن العمليات العسكرية الروسية والتي حتى الان تستهدف بشكل حصري التأكيد على السيطرة الروسية فوق المجال الجوي السوري وحماية مصالحها على الارض ،سوف تعزز الجهود لهزيمة تنظيم الدولة الاسلامية.

While Russia’s emphasis on keeping Assad in power is likely driven by its own interests in retaining influence in the Middle East, it is right about one thing: the Islamic State must be stopped.
ان من المرجح ان التركيز الروسي على ابقاء الاسد في السلطة يدفعه مصالحها الذاتية في الابقاء على نفوذها في الشرق الاوسط ولكن روسيا محقة في شيء واحد فقط وهو انه يجب وقف تنظيم الدولة الاسلامية.

If Israel refused to leave the occupied territories in the past, how can it be expected to do so now, when the Islamic State is creeping toward the border? Doing so would raise massive new risks, in stark contrast to the brief spasms of violence that now punctuate Israel’s otherwise stable security situation.
لقد رفضت اسرائيل ترك المناطق المحتلة في الماضي فكيف يمكن ان نتوقع ان تفعل ذلك الان مع زحف تنظيم الدولة الاسلامية تجاه الحدود ؟ان عمل ذلك سوف يؤدي لحدوث مخاطر جديدة كبيره في تناقض صارخ مع موجات العنف الوجيزه في ظل وضع امني مستقر في اسرائيل .

The bottom line is that Assad has no interest in winning. The man who now holds himself up as civilization’s last bulwark against the Islamic State is also the last man who wants to see it eliminated.
في واقع الامر ليس للأسد اية مصلحة في الفوز فالرجل الذي يعتبر نفسه الان كآخر حصن للحضارة ضد تنظيم الدولة الاسلامية هو ايضا اخر رجل يريد القضاء على التنظيم .

نعم ،ان من المؤكد ان تنظيم الدولة الاسلامية هو تنظيم قوي ولكنه ليس قويا لدرجة ان نترك اولئك الذين يحاربونه مع سياسة اهون الشرين فقط .

And it is a grave mistake to think that this can be achieved without a political solution to the conflict in Syria – the conflict that enabled the organization’s explosive growth. Only if external powers think beyond military operations and devise a political solution to the crisis can the fight against the Islamic State succeed.
ان خطأ روسيا الفادح هو اعتقادها انه بالإمكان تحقيق ذلك بدون حل سياسي للصراع في سوريا وهو الصراع الذي ساعد على النمو السريع للتنظيم . ان القتال ضد تنظيم الدولة الاسلامية سوف ينجح فقط في حالة لو فكرت القوى الخارجية الى ما هو ابعد من العمليات العسكرية وصاغت حل سياسي للأزمة.

Do any of us ever tear up our insurance policies? Do we really believe that Assad and his cronies are too stupid to have realized that their political survival depends on that of the Islamic State and on maintaining themselves as the keepers of the gate through which the rest of us must pass to wage war against it?
فهل يرغب لاعب شطرنج وحى لو كان لاعبا سيئا ان يتعمد التضحية بأقوى حجر عنده؟ هل يرغب اي منا بتمزيق بوالص التأمين العائدة له ؟ هل نعتقد حقا بإن الاسد واتباعه هم بالغباء لدرجة انهم لم يدركوا بإن بقاءهم السياسي يعتمد على بقاء تنظيم الدولة الاسلامية وعلى المحافظة على وضعهم كحراس البوابة التي يتوجب على بقيتنا المرور من خلالها لشن حرب ضد التنظيم ؟

لكن الواقعيين المفترضين يرفضون قبول الحقيقه فهم يدعون انه كما كان من الضروري التحالف مع ستالين لهزيمة هتلر ، يجب ان لا نخشى من لعب ورقة الاسد من اجل التخلص من تنظيم الدولة الاسلامية. نعم، ان الحركات الجهادية تمثل الفاشيه اليوم فالحركات الجهادية لديهاالخطط والأفكار والاراده الساعيه لتحقيق النقاء والتي تشبه النازيه علما انني كنت من اوائل الذين اقترحوا بوجود تلك المقارنه قبل حوالي عشرين عاما.

Nonetheless, Russia’s claim that Syria faces a choice between Assad or the Islamic State is false. Suspicions about Russia’s intentions have lately ballooned, as the country allegedly steps up its aid to the Assad regime, a longtime ally, and calls increasingly loudly for cooperation with the regime to combat the Islamic State.
مهما يكن من امر فإن ادعاء روسيا ان سوريا تواجه خيارا بين الاسد أو تنظيم الدولة الاسلامية هو ادعاء كاذب . ان الشكوك المتعلقة بالنوايا الروسية قد زادت بشكل كبير مؤخرا بينما تقوم روسيا بزيادة مساعداتها لنظام الاسد وهو حليف قديم لروسيا ويتعالى صوتها في الدعوة للتعاون مع النظام لقتال تنظي�� الدولة الاسلامية.

لقد اعتقد بوش ومستشاروه المتشددون ان القوة فقط أو "تغيير النظام " هي التي سوف توقف ارهاب تلك الدول المارقة أو برامجها من اجل اكتساب "اسلحة الدمار الشامل" وعليه في مارس من سنة 2003 قامت الولايات المتحدة الامريكية بغزو العراق والذي نتج عنه حالة حرب اهلية شبه دائمة طيلة عقد من الزمان وحكومة مركزية غير فعالة في بغداد والان صعود تنظيم الدولة الاسلامية.

لم يكن هناك حل جيد منذ الاربعاء الاسود في اغسطس 2013 وذلك عندما استخدمت الة الحرب التابعة للرئيس السوري بشار الاسد الاسلحة الكيماوية بحيث تجاوزت " الخط الاحمر" الذي حذر الرئيس الامريكي انه سوف يؤدي الى رد عسكري امريكي . لقد كانت المعارضة المعتدلة قائمة ولم يكن تنظيم الدولة الاسلامية قد ظهر بعد ولكن في آخر لحظة غير اوباما توجهاته ورفض التدخل .
